We can search patents via Lexis/Nexis (available from the library home page under Databases by Title), but they are also available to search on the free net from the U.S. Patent and Trademark O=ffice and Google patents. I'm assuming you only want US patents...many foreign patents are searchable on the WIPO site. The assignee field is where you will have to search for the company that owns the patent and you would need to be precise about whether you want to search for application year or the year the patent was issued. The google patents database includes both granted patents and applications. The official site forces you to search separately for granted patents and applications. I believe both databases only go back to 1976, so if you're looking for something historical, let me know and we'll have to explore other resources.
